The Science Birthday Party for Ages PreK-6th Grade in CT, MA, RI, NH
The Silly Science Show is 30min of goofy entertainment with colorful, glowing “science tricks” that is just as fun as a magic show but involves no magic.
The Silly Science Show is best enjoyed by K-5th grade, and includes science more basic concepts such as color and heat, as well as more advance concepts such as electricity and chemical reactions.
We would describe the Silly Science Show as “Miss Frizzle meets Bill Nye and they join a circus”.
It’s the right show for your party if:
- you don’t want a show that is not a magic show
- you want some level of educational programming (which still focuses on the fun)
FAQ: The Silly Science Show
Is this really educational or just for fun? It’s both! The reason we call it the “silly” science show is because most clients use it as entertainment programming, but with an educational slant.
Who is coming to my party? When you book the Silly Science Show, we’ll either send Kenny or Olivia. Both are public school teachers and seasoned party entertainers. You can read more about Kenny here, or scroll down to learn more about Olivia.
Can I have the Silly Science Show come to my school? Yes! If you want the science show at your school, there are just a few technical considerations:
- The show was created for up to groups of 30. For auditorium events, you would just need an AV set up including a mic, camera, and monitor so the smaller tricks can be enjoyed by all.
- For camps or schools, the science show can be run over and over for different waves of kids. Just be sure to time it so our silly scientists have about 30min as how, plus about 15min to clean and reset everything for the following show.
- The science show focuses on the lesson “anyone can be a scientist” more than it does any scientific material or learning objective. It doesn’t focus on any one scientific principle enough for a classroom curriculum, but it does aim to get kids engaged and excited about science.
Do you do anything else science-themed besides the show? Yup! We have a “slime lab” where kids get to make their own 2oz container of slime, perfect for PreK-tweens.
What do I need to set up? The silly scientist needs to be either indoors or (if outdoors) under shade like a tent. They’ll need one long table for his show. For small audiences that’s all they’ll needs, but for audiences of over 50 children, the client should plan to an AV set up including a mic, camera, and monitor so the smaller tricks can be enjoyed by all.
How much does the Silly Science Show cost? It depends on the event and package. When you ask our office for a quote, they’ll send you several options at different price points for your party.
What towns do you service? Kenny lives in CT and Olivia lives in MA, but together they also cover RI, VT, NH, and ME.
How To Book a Science Birthday Party in CT, MA, NH, RI
Save a Space for Your Science Show
To run the science show, our scientists need a table (a folding table is perfect) plus a 10′ x 4′ space to move as their “stage” and an area for kids to sit.
For smaller science birthday parties, this is all you need, ez-pz!
For larger events of over 30+ kids, we suggest (when possible) that you give your scientist an elevated surface (like a stage or risers) plus some A/V. We don’t currently do sound engineering or provide mics/amps.
Add on a Slime Lab
Our scientists can run a slime lab after the show is up, with prices per child available upon request.
In our slime lab, your tiny lab partners are able to mix their own slime (under supervision) that they can bring home. The slime is colorful, low-tack, and about 2oz per kid.
Be Mindful of Some Mess!
Our science show has a lot of liquids in it, although it’s contained by our scientists very well. Our slime is also engineered to be low-tack and less messy than other commercial slimes.
However, please remember that we’re human! Once you add kids into the mix, anything has the potential to be messy.
Some science show experiments include food coloring; the slime lab involves glue and watercolor pigment. If you’re nervous about a small amount of those liquids in your space, we strongly suggest moving your science birthday party to another area (or going with one of our magic shows instead).
FAQ For Schools and Camps
What educational topics are covered? Do they come with worksheets?
The science show is structured to be fun first and educational second. So instead of designing the “tricks” around certain topics or lessons, the scientific principals are woven in with a lot of silliness and plot. It’s also meant to entertain ages 5-10, so the concepts are significantly abbreviated to keep kids’ attention.
Because of that, we do not have worksheets or quizzes for the kids.
However, we do consider this to be educational programming with topics that include:
- Electricity and atoms
- States of matter and density
- Chemical reactions
Can this work with my curriculum?
If your curriculum is covering one of the topics listed above, yes! However, we do not alter our show to write in your educational goals. We would suggest bringing in the show either at the beginning or end of your unit as a fun treat, but not a structured part of learning.
How many kids can you entertain?
There are two ways we can entertain, and depending on what makes sense the number of children is flexible:
- One large stage show. If you put one of our scientists on a stage, we can entertain anywhere from a small group to a huge auditorium. However, because the “tricks” use to-scale pieces of lab equipment, we suggest you mic the show (and possibly add video) for groups over 50.
- Smaller shows on repeat in waves. If you want to get in waves of classrooms or campers, our 30min show can be done on repeat every 45min throughout the day. In this case, we don’t need a stage or any AV equipment, and we can accommodate as many waves of kids as you can fit into your day.
An Interview with Olivia: Science Teacher and Event Entertainer
Are you really a science teacher?
Yes! I graduated Stonehill College in Easton, MA as a double major in Science and Education in 2021. My original goal was to work in a lab, but I love working with kids and in community too much. The lab was too lonely for me, which is a major theme of our science show.
When did you start entertaining at events?
Before I was a science teacher! I grew up in Ellington CT and at my high school an actress visited our theatre club to talk about a job opportunity for princesses. I applied right in time for my 16th birthday! Being a princess, face painter, and balloon twister at Kaleidoscope was actually my first job ever, and I’m still here over a decade later.
What’s your favorite type of party to entertain at?
I love a good birthday party! Corporate events can seem “fancier”, but everyone is so kind to us at birthday parties. I love being creative and always feel like what I do is so apprecaited.
Would you rather do a science birthday party or a normal face painting / balloon twisting party?
That’s a hard one! Can I say a mix of both?
