FAQ: Strolling Magicians for Hire in CT, MA, RI, NH
What sort of magic tricks do the different magicians do?
We don’t want to give away their secret ingredients, but typically strolling magicians have about 5-8 tricks in their “set” so they can mingle with everyone in your event without (1) having too many things to carry or (2) having to repeat tricks.
Who is coming to my party?
For strolling magic, because our magicians are so different, you will know exactly who is coming to your event (unlike our bubble, science, or mermaid fairy shows). At the time of booking, you’ll decide on exactly which magician you want to come (and they will be scheduled by name).
Can the magician come in a costume?
Depending on who you choose, yes. For example, Kenny has many costumes to choose from; Marissa doesn’t wear any. It truly just depends on which magician you choose and their style.
What do I need to set up?
Nothing at all. Strolling magic is one of our few experiences where no table, chairs, tent, or anything is required.
How much does strolling magic cost?
All of our strolling magicians are set at different price points and may have diferent travel fees depending on where they live (and where your event is). When you ask for a quote for strolling magic, you will be sent all of their prices.
What towns do you service?
We service all of MA, RI, CT, NH, as well as the majority of VT and ME.
How To Book one of our Magicians for Hire in CT, MA, RI, NH
Unlike our other magical experiences, strolling magicians don’t need any stage or sound. All of their magic is done up-close and inside of the crowd!
That said, there are a few suggestions we have that will make hiring a magician a lot easier.
1. Pick the magician that best suits your audience’s age and interest. If you scroll up, you can see who we recommend for what. All of our magicians for hire are fabulous, but they all have their own vibes!
2. Pick on any add-ons you want. When you hire a magician with Kaleidoscope, everyone we work with has add-on’s from balloon twisting and face painting to tarot reading or henna. These add-on’s may or may not be right for your event, but ask our office when you’re pricing out your options.
3. Plan for parking and a “stash spot” for your magicians. Despite how magical they may seem, magicians will still pull up in their car and likely need a space to stash jackets or water bottles. If you have a secret spot they can use, it’ll help them stay in character for your whole event!
4. Make a plan to pay. If your magician comes in character, they don’t want to break it! You can either pay in advance or pay electronically upon their arrival so you don’t have to hand your magical entertainer a check in front of anyone (and break the magic).
An Interview with Oasis: Face Painter, Balloon Twister, and Magician for Hire
Is Oasis your real name?
Nope! My name is Alexis, and Oasis is one of the characters I play at Kaleidoscope. My background is in theatre, and I wanted to bring a really immersive experience to the strolling magic I do–like bringing the stage down to the audience. I thought a character would help me with that goal.
What was the inspiration for your character Oasis?
We have amazing magicians for hire here, and I didn’t want to do something we had done before. The idea of potions magic was really intriguing to me since I grew up reading young adult fantasy books, but I wanted to put a spin on it that which was more “festival” and less “magic castle”. I think Oasis and her magic really help event guests enter another world, but in a way that is still accessible to them.
What’s one big difference between Oasis and other magicians for hire?
I think the first one is obviously the potions magic, but I think beyond that there’s something just very different about how Oasis interacts with guests from a standard strolling magician.
Usually when I’m working an event, guests will come up to me and ask me questions, which isn’t true for the other magicians who usually have to approach the guests themselves. I think that’s because Oasis’s clothes are interesting but approachable, or maybe just because I’m a female magician which people aren’t used to seeing. But after that, the goal is to make guests feel like they stumbled upon a side quest, like they’re in a story or video game, which is really unique. There’s a lot of story telling in what I do.
What’s next for Oasis?
Oasis started as a story telling strolling magician, but I’d love to create a stage show for her one day. I’m also challenging myself to see how I can incorporate other talents of mine, like singing or art, and seeing if we can come up with more unique spins on what a “magic show” can be. Stay tuned!
